Susan Hodgson is an Early Years Advisory Teacher for BDSIP. She joined us in 2009 and is responsible for managing the EYFS profile moderation programme.
Susan originally qualified as a Primary teacher before taking on the role as an EYFS lead, where she developed leadership skills and provided an influence to others on the importance of the early years! She later achieved a Master’s Degree in School Improvement. Susan joined her first post as an Early Years Adviser in January 2001, working for Essex County Council and, 4 years later, took on the role as a Children Centre teacher and Early Years consultant working for Thurrock local authority. During her time with Thurrock, Susan also worked as a Communication, Language and Literacy Consultant as part of the National Literacy Strategy, which involved the delivery of the Letters and Sounds Phonic programme for schools and promoting the importance of early reading. Working with 3 different authorities has provided her with a range of experiences from working in a small rural village school to supporting in a large urban primary school, accommodating many reception classes.
Susan has delivered many training courses to a wide range of audiences, such as LSAs, ECTs, practitioners new to EYFS, experienced practitioners and senior leaders. She has facilitated the Early Years conference, coordinating the speakers and workshops. Susan is a trained school Ofsted inspector and has completed a 4-day Coaching course, which focused on maximising staff performance.
