I have been Governor Services Manager in Barking and Dagenham since 2007, having originally joined the team in 1986. I therefore have a wealth of experience and background knowledge about local schools. I have also completed the NCTL and NGA accredited National Clerks’ Development Programme.
I was very happy to join BDSIP when it launched in 2018 and have enjoyed the development of the one professional team approach. As the Company Secretary I have a good overview of the organisation. It has been inspiring to see the enthusiasm and expertise which new colleagues have brought to BDSIP.
My main role is to provide advice and support on school governance. This includes constitutional guidance and regular updates on local and national issues. My educational background was in science subjects which gave me organisational skills which have been essential in managing the service. I am also the clerk to many of the governing boards which buy the service and have developed good working relationships with them over a long period. I have experience of supporting schools and governors through various challenges such as amalgamations and academisation.
I believe that schools in areas like Barking and Dagenham need to give children the best foundations for learning to help them reach their full potential. Schools must also provide children with the wider opportunities they deserve to help them succeed. I have been very pleased to see the tremendous progress that our borough has made since my early days.
