Our People

Karen Watch
Attendance Adviser
My career with children and young people began as a Nursery Nurse in Independent day nurseries. I then went on to working with teenagers and managed a variety of Youth Work Projects across South and West Essex including Young Carers and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. My speciality is street- based youth work, engaging often hard to reach young people, meeting them on their ground, on their terms.
As a Youth Worker I organised and ran many visits and DofE expeditions across England and Scotland.
I have a degree in Youth & Community Work and am qualified and experienced to work with parents. For the past 4 years I have worked in schools as a Parent Support Adviser and Safeguarding Officer.
During my career I’ve trained colleagues and volunteers in youth work techniques and safeguarding and ran parenting classes. I’m also a qualified Drawing & Talking Practitioner and have been able to use this technique to support children and young people.
My passion is safeguarding young people, advocating for them and ensuring they have a voice. I will be doing that as part of my roles at BDSIP as DSL, Attendance Adviser and supporting the WEX programme.
