We know that phonics is now successfully embedded in the majority of primary settings. However, the teaching of comprehension and inference is still a challenge for many, as well as instilling a love of reading for life. As a group supported by experts, we will explore what we know works and how to introduce approaches in our settings.

This is an opportunity to share challenges and explore solutions to the teaching of reading with colleagues and experts. We are keen to develop a reading strategy for Barking and Dagenham and your input will be invaluable in supporting this aim.

The course will cover a range of teaching approaches
- Explore a range of effective teaching approaches.
- Discuss research-backed strategies and outcomes.
- Develop reading skills beyond phonics.
- Implement whole-school principles to foster lifelong readers.
