Making Sense of Autism

The ‘Making Sense of Autism’ session will give you a better understanding of autism and how it affects children and young people in your setting. It is suitable for practitioners working in both mainstream and specialist settings.

What will the course cover?

All delegates will be able to:

  • Identify the four key areas of difference that need to be taken into account.
  • Know the importance of understanding the individual pupil and their profile of strengths and areas for development.
  • Identify the key areas to help pupils on the autism spectrum build positive relationships with staff, peers, families and people in the community.
  • Develop an awareness of the sensory and communication differences that pupils may experience.

Good Autism Practice

The ‘Good Autism Practice’ training has been developed by the AET to support all practitioners working with children and young people on the autism spectrum in mainstream and specialist settings to develop their practice.

What will the course cover?

The training will:

  • enable practitioners to develop their knowledge and understanding of autism.
  • provide guidelines and activities to support practitioners to reflect on and improve their own practice.

Progression Materials

Collaboration to look at curriculum maps and progression materials for those working below the national curriculum.
