The ‘Making Sense of Autism’ session will give you a better understanding of autism and how it affects children and young people in your setting. It is suitable for practitioners working in both mainstream and specialist settings.

Description

Once delegates have completed this training, they can progress to ‘Good Autism Practice’.

Why should I attend?

  • Do you want to improve your  knowledge and understanding of autism?
  • Do you want to increase your understanding of autism?
  • Do you sometimes work with students with autism?

 

What will the course cover?

All delegates will be able to:

  • Identify the four key areas of difference that need to be taken into account.
  • Know the importance of understanding the individual pupil and their profile of strengths and areas for development.
  • Identify the key areas to help pupils on the autism spectrum build positive relationships with staff, peers, families and people in the community.
  • Develop an awareness of the sensory and communication differences that pupils may experience.

 

Who should attend?

Basic autism awareness training for all staff within school-age education setting, mainstream and specialist services. This includes teachers, teaching assistants, transport staff, lunchtime staff, senior management, governors and service staff such as administrators.  This training will also be useful for colleagues from other agencies who support school-age children and young people with ASD.

 

Cost:

Pay as you go - £50
