Governor Training: Headteacher Performance Management

Home > Governor Training: Headteacher Performance Management

The course will help governors understand their role in conducting headteacher performance management. It will describe each stage of the process and how the independent advisor supports the headteachers and governors in reviewing the previous year's targets.

Description

Why should I attend?

This course is designed for governors who are likely to be asked to form part of a headteacher performance management panel and/or pay award panel. It will provide governors with the knowledge and understanding about how to set appropriate objectives for the headteacher for the forthcoming year and how to objectively review whether the previous year's targets had been fully met, partially met, or not met at all. Governors will also be familiarised with the role of the independent advisor who supports the appraisal process.

What will the course cover?

The course will help governors understand their role in conducting headteacher performance management. It will describe each stage of the process and how the independent advisor supports the headteachers and governors in reviewing the previous year's targets. The session will also focus on setting appropriate targets for the year ahead and the importance of agreeing success criteria. It will also cover why it is important to plan a mid-year review of the headteacher's progress against the objectives. The session will also discuss how headteacher's pay awards are determined.
