We know that phonics is now successfully embedded in the majority of primary settings. However, the teaching of comprehension and inference is still a challenge for many, as well as instilling a love of reading for life. As a group supported by experts, we will explore what we know works and how to introduce approaches in our settings.

Description

Why should I attend?

This is an opportunity to share challenges and explore solutions to the teaching of reading with colleagues and experts. We are keen to develop a reading strategy for Barking and Dagenham and your input will be invaluable in supporting this aim.

What will the course cover?

The course will cover a range of teaching approaches 

  • Explore a range of effective teaching approaches.
  • Discuss research-backed strategies and outcomes.
  • Develop reading skills beyond phonics.
  • Implement whole-school principles to foster lifelong readers.
