This session focuses on the Place aspect of the primary geography curriculum - localities in KS1 and regions in KS2. We will explore why scale matters and look at case studies for both localities and regions. We will look at the use of images and videos and how to challenge children's misconceptions.

Why should I attend?

The concept of place is core to primary geography. You will come away with clear ideas of how place-based planning can support the exploration of other key concepts, and what to look for when choosing resources.

 

What will the course cover?

The importance of scale in developing children's understanding of place; how to support progression; case studies taken from Asia, Africa, North and South America; enquiry approaches; how to use photographs to develop critical thinking.
