Full Biography

Surinder has been involved in teaching and learning of mathematics for the over 25 years.  He studied Mathematics & Physics (BSc), Control Engineering and ICT (MSc) and completed his PGCE at Kings College London (under the mentoring of Dylan William). His first teaching post was at the high achieving Seven Kings High School under the leadership of Sir Alan Steer, followed by two promotions at St. Edwards CofE School (Second and then Head of Department), where he led the department to consistently and significantly raise its A*-C results to 86%.

Surinder is an experienced maths adviser, known for his calm, thoughtful approach and deep subject knowledge. He supports schools to strengthen maths teaching, build confident teams, and raise outcomes for all learners.

Surinder began his career as a maths teacher in high-performing London schools and quickly progressed to Head of Department, where he led significant and sustained improvements in pupil outcomes. As a Local Authority Consultant in Barking and Dagenham, he worked closely with schools across the borough, helping them to tailor their approach and improve GCSE results by an average of 10%. He later took up a senior leadership role, where he deepened his understanding of student progress, curriculum design and whole-school improvement—work that contributed to moving a school from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’.

Today, Surinder offers tailored support to secondary schools across East London, with a focus on curriculum planning, pedagogy, and subject leadership. He leads collaborative training events and cross-borough initiatives, and plays a national role as Assistant Lead for the London North-East Maths Hub, where he helps shape good practice across the region.

Surinder is proud to work alongside BDSIP and shares our commitment to practical, inclusive education that helps all young people succeed. Whether supporting a new teacher or working with a senior team, he brings clarity, connection and a steady focus on what makes the biggest difference in the classroom.
