Seven secondary schools sent Year 10 students to the Pathway’s to Oxford and Cambridge session at the Barking Learning Centre last Thursday, October 10.
The morning was led jointly by speakers from Newnham College Cambridge and Wadham College Oxford who outlined the benefits of aiming higher and studying at a top, research-based university. While they represented Oxbridge, they also underlined the excellence of the entire Russel Group and that other universities might be appropriate for their chosen subject.
They also challenged students to debate the question “Should footballers earn more than nurses?”, demonstrating the wider critical thinking needed to engage in study at university. The students spoke eloquently and with empathy for each side of the argument. They left the session with plenty of information to enable them to make informed choices for their future.
