Whole Education SEND Network

Whole Education SEND Network

BDSIP is delighted to be working in partnership with Whole Education to bring the WE SEND Network to Barking and Dagenham schools. 22 schools signed up to year one of the programme, which offers a framework for developing sustainable and self-improving communities of SEND practice.

Schools are involved in a model of peer review which places collaboration at the heart of improving SEND provision; schools work largely in triads, with one school taking on a coaching role. Peer review is a proven mechanism for building capacity and expertise in individuals and within schools, improving the quality of SEND provision across the family of schools. The programme is quality assured by David Bartram OBE, in collaboration with BDSIP, to ensure there is appropriate rigour and that we are able to identify key areas of strength and areas for development across the local education system.

The programme offers the following benefits and impacts for schools:

  • Professional development of your SENCo, as part of a SEND Network, which focuses on strategic leadership in the context of a whole-school responsibility.
  • Accurate self-evaluation that shows progress over time focused on SEND priorities in the EIF.
  • Concise and accessible action planning that aligns to wider school priorities.
  • Showcase areas of strength in provisions and receive support for areas of development.
  • Access to SEND professional development for all staff.

The price of this programme is based on the number of schools participating.

“For me being a SENCo is a non-stop role. What Whole School SEND has given me is the right tools to assess and plan, ready to do and review what I do! Using the online tool was really enlightening. It helped me identify where I needed to focus and gave me great ideas for how to move forward. The plan looked daunting but it was
very easy to complete and has provided me with a clear, measurable structure. Being able to talk it through with my mentor was really useful, as they were able to give me a different point of view and generate some great ideas.”

Tara Grimshaw, Leader of Learning Inclusion, St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School
