As a Careers Adviser, Esther co-ordinates the careers delivery in two schools, and negotiates the programmes of work to be delivered with head teachers, careers leaders and other staff members. She offers guidance and information on education, employment and training opportunities through one-to-one interviews in our participating schools and contacts parents as required.
Esther has considerable experience of more than 30 years in careers advice and guidance. Prior to arriving in Barking and Dagenham in 2007 she worked as Careers Adviser in a range of schools and colleges in the London boroughs of Redbridge, Barnet and Hackney guiding and supporting young people with their career plans, establishing and maintaining links with employers and training providers, pushing through barriers to enable equality and diversity working with NEET young people and advising on higher education.
Taking a career break in 1996, Esther taught on the Level 3 Advice and Guidance course at Newham College, took a Masters in Psychodynamic Counselling and used the experience to counsel adults and young people then subsequently taught on the Level 3 Counselling Skills Certificate for two years at Epping Forest College. Her most recent project was setting up a single parent support group. Esther’s primary focus is to see young people fulfil their potential and access the opportunities open to them.
