2021 SACRE Poetry Competition
Barking and Dagenham SACRE (Standing advisory council for Religious Education) ran a lockdown ‘poetry competition’ in RE lessons in 2021.
This was SACREs first time running a B&D competition and we have been thrilled with the results. SACRE members made short films with what had helped them get through lockdown and inspired pupils with ideas for their own poetry writing.
In January schools were sent information about what SACRE was looking for in the pupils work and the themes pupils could use to write their poems.
“I liked all the content of these poems, they had very thoughtful reflections about life during his strange time and how it affected us all. I saw lots of things I recognised about being away from friends, home schooling and having to stay safe. These poets thought about form, some looking for rhyme and using the layout to make their messages clear. “ – quote from Eithne Cullen, poet & judge of competition.
