This suite of four one-hour training sessions will build on the pedagogical knowledge discussed in Tier 1 (Spring 2021) to provide you with strategies that will support your planning to ensure SEND learners are fully included in learning experiences and able to make good or better progress. If you did not attend the Tier 1 training but would like to attend, please contact Lee.Boyce@bdsip.co.uk for further information to ensure you can participate fully in the Tier 2 training.


Our ‘Recovery Curriculum’ is going to require us to adapt what we do and how we do it to maximise the potential for learning and progress for all.  The Universal Design for Learning offers a mechanism through which we can reconceptualise the way we plan learning to consider the needs of everyone in our classrooms, ensuring they feel included and able to participate.

  • I want to develop a strategic action plan to develop High Quality First Teaching in my classroom or in every class in my setting. 


What will the course cover? 

Over the course of the first three sessions, we will look at the key components of the Universal Design for Learning to explore practical strategies that can be implemented in the classroom.  The three key elements we will explore are: 

  • Engagement – the Why of Learning 

  • Representation – the What of Learning 

  • Action and Expression – the How of Learning 


In the fourth session, we will work collaboratively to: 

  • identify the barriers to developing a culture of inclusion in our classrooms or across our settings. 

  • explore solution-focused approaches to removing those barriers by looking at ‘what’s possible. 

  • develop an action plan for implementation in the Spring Term.
