Indeed, Professor of Mathematics at Stamford University, Jo Boaler, has stated that ‘‘Puzzles and games, anything with dice, will help kids enjoy maths and develop number sense, which is critically important.’’

Description
This twilight will highlight the research and benefits of playing games in maths and practically explore the power of subitising, structured pattern and visualization skills to aid mental calculations and this sense of number.
Using simple resources such as dice, playing cards and dominoes we will apply this research, learning and playing a number of games suitable from reception to year 6. These can then be used directly in classrooms or as a basis for a parents’ workshop.
