Supporting learners with MLD: An introduction with Q&A

Home > Supporting learners with MLD: An introduction with Q&A

Children with moderate learning difficulties (MLD) will struggle to access an age-appropriate mainstream curriculum and without adequate support, it is not unusual for children with these needs to develop issues with self-confidence and self-esteem that can manifest as challenging behaviour and/or disengagement from learning or school completely. This session will explore teaching approaches and strategies to support inclusion of these learners so they can experience success.

Why should I attend?

With the right teaching and support, children with moderate learning difficulties are able to access an appropriate mainstream curriculum and experience success in their learning.  This session will explore what quality first teaching looks like for these learners so you are able to plan effectively to meet their needs.

What will it cover?

The course will cover:

  • what we mean by moderate learning difficulties.
  • what difficulties these children face in the classroom and in school.
  • universal teaching approaches to support inclusion of these learners in your classroom.
  • strategies to help them ‘help themselves’ when they are struggling in the classroom.
