Course Description:

This one-day course will equip you to implement the Barking and Dagenham New Religious Education Agreed Syllabus, the legal document all schools must teach RE from September 2020. You will leave with a better understanding of the new curriculum for RE and able to put it into place in your school with a range of exciting and practical teaching strategies. You will leave with a sound understanding of how to teach the skills of RE and develop your own ‘professional subject knowledge’ to be able to lead others.

Participants will:

  • Ensure your long-term curriculum map is in place to cover the legal requirements for Primary RE;
  • Have a clear sense of what it means for pupils to progress in RE through the primary school and strategies to ‘check’ (assess) that this is taking place;
  • Be able to articulate curriculum and assessment in terms of ‘Intent’ and ‘Impact’;
  • Gain confidence about how to teach RE well in the primary school (‘Implementation’), ensuring your school is teaching high quality knowledge and skills, and
  • Grow in confidence in leading and managing RE across your school context.

Course Leader: Claire Clinton: Adviser RE & Philosophy. BDSIP

Claire has a high level of expertise in primary RE and years of experience in leading training with teachers in school. She leads a team of primary SLE’s and teachers developing materials and other guidance available to schools nationally on RE. Teachers always leave her courses feeling more knowledgeable and inspired to transform their own practice in school.
