This 2-part course will focus on what is needed to become an effective subject leader. It is aimed at less experienced subject leaders and those new to the role and will cover generic aspects of subject leadership.


This is two part course run over two afternoons.


Why should I attend?

  • Participants will understand the different aspects of their role
  • Participants will have strategies for developing their subject within their school
  • Participants will be able to improve pupil outcomes across the school


What will it cover?

  • Identifying priorities
  •  Action/development planning
  • Monitoring
  • Supporting others
  • Leading change
  • Networking with other new subject leaders

Part 1 will be followed by gap tasks which we will reflect on in part 2.
The content of part 2 will be partly guided by needs identified in part 1


Who should go?

  • Teachers in their first subject leadership role (any subject)



This is a 2 x half day course.

Upon registration our booking system will correctly display the cost of this course based on your school package status.

  • Schools that have purchased BDSIP’s CPD package: no cost
  • Schools that have not purchased BDSIP’s CPD package:
    • For BDSIP member schools - £200 per delegate
    • For non-BDSIP member schools - £250 per delegate
